Meeting Agenda for Aug 21 Meeting

1. We have extended the meeting to 6:30-9:30 p.m., and will start with a social hour/light dinner. Dinner will cost approximately $10/person, need firm headcount prior to event.

2. Schedule for the evening is as follows:
   • 6:30-7:15 arrivals, late arrivals, dinner and socializing
   • 7:15-7:30 Introductions; review of agenda
   • 7:30 Start of rigging seminar
   • 8:30 conclusion of seminar; transition to cover club business.
   • 8:30-9:30 Club business. Discuss progress on budget, Web site, membership application, bylaws, next meeting venue, and the wreck tournament.

3. Rigging seminar. Our first educational venue features captains Scott Martindell and John Berenato, presenting an offshore rigging seminar. Scott served as one of the captains aboard the First Light, a well-known Barnegat-based Henriques 38 that fished the canyons almost exclusively. John started his career as a mate aboard the Sea Isle party boat Ursula, and went on to earn his 50 Ton Master License eight years ago. He has over 200 canyon trips to his credit, and fished several of the past Mid Atlantic $500,000 tournaments aboard the Trashy Lady, a 57' Viking.

   Scott will demonstrate how to create double hook stiff rigs with stainless cable and mono leader, intended for consumption by bigeye tuna and marlin. John will present rigging techniques for jet heads, psycho-squids, squid rigs, green machine daisy chains, and chunking rigs for tuna and swordfish.

4. Budget discussion led by Russ Walton (treasurer). Preliminary annual budget will be discussed, which will break down into per-member fee structure. (Prior discussions suggested that a reasonable fee would be anywhere from $50 to $200/year. Still need to discuss potential for running 50/50 raffles at each meeting to raise money, also want to discuss selling videos, etc.

5. Need to continue membership discussion. Present application form, discuss how we handle new members, sponsors, etc. Present membership application in its present form, member card design; collect feedback for improvements above items. (Discussion point: what is the target membership size?)

6. Present state of bylaw development.

7. Wreck fishing tournament! Review plans as currently developed, road map for wrapping it up.

8. Vote on educational venue for next meeting. Options include:
   • Bring in speaker to address the topic of safety at sea, search and rescue, and surviving a disaster at sea. Possibilities include a SAR Coast Guardsman or survival expert.

   • Practical medicine at sea. How to remove hooks, what to do with slip and falls, lacerations, and other common ailments. What the average non-medical professional should carry aboard.

   • Bait rigging free-for-all. Nominate two or three members with lots of bait rigging experience to present their favorite and most reliable rigs.

   • Lure rigging presentation by professionals. (Winter venue)

   • Canyon fishing by the pros (Winter venue, try and get charter captain to present)

   • Wreck fishing by the pros. (Winter venue, hire charter captain to speak?)

   • Penn Reels servicing workshop (Winter venue). Bring your favorite International.

   • Rod building by Steve London

   • Other ideas????
