Recent Happenings and Agenda for November 20, 2002 Meeting

Our October featured a presentation by PJSA board members Joel Harnick and Al Gillen. This lively 90-minute presentation covered everything from the basics of inshore wreck fishing to the tips and techniques to score with bigger and better fish. Joel and Al covered all of the topics listed in this outline.

For those who may have missed this venue, our club historian, Matt Harnick, made a video of the entire presentation, and copies of the tape will be available to PJSA members shortly.

November 20 Meeting Update
Storm Photo Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20 from 7:00-9:30 p.m. and will be held in Fort Washington, Pa. At this meeting, we'll have the special opportunity to host Jim Eberwine of the National Weather Service. Mr. Eberwine is one of the meteorologists in the National Weather Service's Mount Holly office who produce the marine forecasts that we all use when making our fishing plans.

At the meeting, Mr. Eberwine will deliver a presentation outlining the forecasting process, understanding the elements affecting marine weather, and then will field questions about marine weather and marine weather forecasts.

If you're not a member of PJSA, but are interested in attending this meeting, please contact Joel Harnick or Al Gillen.

Future Events
We will skip December, and plan to kick off the new year with three back-to-back events in January through March that promise to be big draws!

Saturday, January 25 - Double Header: Fishing Using Temperature Charts, and Tips and Tricks from the Crew of the Canyon Runner
Presenting at this event we will have two outstanding speakers: We'll start out with Len Belcaro, known both as publisher of The Big Game Fishing Journal, and for Offshore Satellite Services, his satellite-generated ocean temperature chart service. Following Len Belcaro is Adam LaRosa, who both mates and captains aboard the "Canyon Runner," one of Point Pleasant's best-known charter boats. Adam will share the tips and tricks used on the Canyon Runner to consistently put big fish into the cockpit. More details on this event to follow.

Saturday, February 15 (date tentative)
As a follow-up to our popular September offshore rigging discussion, our February meeting will offer an afternoon of hands-on rigging. We'll be offering a number of lure designs that you'll be able to buy and rig, as well as bait rigs for chunking and trolling. This will also be an excellent opportunity to bring existing lures that need re-rigging. Stay tuned for more information regarding what supplies will be needed for this event.

Saturday, March 1
The third leg of our winter education series will be a presentation by a well-known fishing and boating writer, John Raguso. The author of The Fisherman magazine's series on shipwrecks of the Atlantic, John will present an in-depth wreck fishing seminar covering fishing shallow wrecks, deep wrecks, trolling, drifting, chumming, and, of course, bottom fishing. He'll present a slide show including underwater shots, and will discuss the ins and outs of finding and fishing offshore wrecks.

For a look at other future events, see our Calendar page. Please note that our scheduled regular meetings are planned for the third Wednesday of each month.
