SECOND ANNUAL
OFFSHORE BRAGGING RIGHTS TOURNAMENT
|
Final Results:
|
| On Wednesday, Sept. 22, The awards ceremony was held for the PJSA 2004 Offshore Bragging
Rights Tournament. The final results showed Al Gillen and his crew hanging on to first
place in the tuna division with a 71 pound longfin tuna. Last year's tuna division winner,
Ron Kovler was unable to better his second place fish and had to turn over the coveted tuna
trophy to Gillen's crew. Third place was nabbed by Nick Veneziale's crew, which was going
gangbusters this season.

Al Gillen's crew takes ownership of the tuna trophy from last year's winner, Ron Kovler, with its
winning tuna.
In the marlin and shark category, Nick Veneziale and his crew absolutely blew out the field
with an amazing total of 992 points. Remarkably, if the tournament had run one additional
week, Nick could have added yet another 400 points to his total with a blue marlin release.
At the awards ceremony, Nick took possession of the marlin trophy, ironically, from Al Gillen,
for the next year.
Second place was captured by a late entry of four-white marlin releases in a single day
by Mike Peterpaul, Dave Kirk and Don Orpen fishing aboard Mike's 39' Viking. Third place
went to Lee Burden, who took a 154 pound mako early in the season.

Tuna Division: |
|
First Place: A remarkably large 71 pound longfin tuna taken by Capt. Al Gillen, Stan Kluskiewicz, angler.

Curiously, this 71 pound fish displaces a 67-pound fish previously entered by Al Gillen's crew to firmly hang on to the first place position.

Ken Bennett beat this 67-pound bluefin to put Al Gillen's team into the lead early in the season. Ken wasn't quite expecting the fight he ended up getting with this fish!

Back at the dock, Al Gillen's crew shows off it's first tournament entry, an early-season 67-pound bluefin.

Second Place: Capt. Ron Kovler, 58 pound yellowfin tuna.

Ron Kovler grabbed second place with this 58 pound yellowfin taken from Spencer Canyon.
